Thank You!

We've had a pretty busy past year, with our baby girl who is now 1 year and 4 months old and both of us trying to get the business off the ground. It's been fun though tiring at times, and extremely fulfilling whenever a recipe was finally worked to our satisfaction (like the premium chocolate fruitcake, which seemed to take forever!). So here's a big THANK YOU to all our wonderful supporters -- you're making it possible for us to achieve our dream!

Just what is this dream about? For me (Su Ching), it's about creating all sorts of baked goodies under the sun, all the ideas that pop into my head at the weirdest moments (eg. in transit to and from zzzz land), and being able to make it into a business so that I can do this and get paid! For Don, it's about being able to train people to give good service in the food industry (though he also loves to cook and bake wacky stuff, like Chicken Kena Jam (no... not kena jam on the expressway)). Together our dream is to build a viable food business, emphasising on using honest to goodness ingredients and methods for the best-tasting stuff (hence the latter half of our name, Old World Traditions), and using it as a platform to train others for a career in the service industry... for the sake of Singapore (says Don). :)

Of course we both weren't born holding whisks or spatulas (in case you thought so). Don first cooked at about 6 years old, one day when he was alone at home and decided he felt like having some bee hoon soup. So he traipsed out and bought some bee hoon and vegetables, and boiled them together. He threw them out after that. At least even back then his tastebuds were cultivated enough to recognize lousy cooking. I remember baking my first lot of plain animal crackers (mine were squares because I didn't have any fanciful doo dahs back then) when I was perhaps 13, in the tiny toaster oven at home. I wasn't terribly impressed, but mom said they tasted just fine to her. God really makes mothers with nurturing hearts to be able to say such encouraging words. I pay tribute to my family, who bravely muched through all my years of skills building to give me the confidence I have today.

As we enter this new year, we hope to share with you our readers the stuff that goes on as we build our business, as well as things close to our hearts such as healthful eating, organic practices and our environment. Do check out the other links on our blog, I've included those that are very educational as well as fantastic food blogs and websites.

Have a great year ahead!
